1450 Ocean Santa Monica Open Craft Lounge
Just north of the Santa Monica Pier in Camera Obscura building is a place for “arts, crafts and community.” I took that quote from their news bulletin.
Many of the classes charge a fee, but every second Saturday 1450 Ocean sponsors an Open Craft Lounge. You can bring your own stuff to work on and they also have occasional guests artists. This month they had two sewing machines available for use and Santa Monica’s Resource Recovery program brought in material for people to make cards and bird feeders. I made these cards with ink stamps.
They also had envelopes and I made them match my card.
It was your choice what you do. Its art. My cards reflect desires to dream and what we all need…. Love.
I did not make this masterpiece. It was the creation of another attendee.
When it comes to ART it is all subjective. When it comes to FREE art it truly is liberating to make the expressive form you want to make.
Maybe one day I’ll meet a guy like me into yoga, poetry, hikes in the wood, Shakespeare, ART, tall, like very tall, and whose soul gets mine who I can give my card to. Sorry doing art makes me dreamy, imaginative, and wanting to curl up under a blanket with chocolate. I need someone who makes me want to stop and breathe And get my tush up to do yoga. Fitness is important to the creative mind.
One addition. In May there will be more classes and on the 31st there will be a special collaboration with Santa Monica’s Resource Recovery program- Repair Cafe. Contact Resource Recovery at recyclin@smgov.net or 310-458-2201 x5706.
