Los Feliz Food Art Festival
I went to this festival on October 26, 2019 and well I am catching up. This is a festival started by a local politician David Ryu. It took up a few blocks in my neighborhood. It was art, food, music, and vendors.
The above images include images by the artist Rose Couch. She combines paint canvas and thread in her work. It is her image of Bowie.
Robert Heavrin is a photographer whose work is abstract and urban.
Yu Maeda is a Los Angeles based painter whose work reflects both indigenous themes and surreal graphics.
There were also local jewelers like Mapache. Rochelle Martin makes artistic pieces with south west flavor, as well as pieces with organic and natural symbols, like flowers and butterflies.
The event also had an area where attendees could make art, vegetable book marks, and painting with cut vegetables and fruits. They also had a screen printer make bags with nice designs.
Otherwild had a booth. They are a retail space, graphic design studio, and gathering workshop event space. They had a variety of goods on display. The socks are theirs.
The local Blue Rooster art supply store had live paintings and samples of their wares on display both to examine and use. They also had activities for kids. It was Halloween so they had a monster theme.
Los Feliz is California and there was of course a vegan presence in the form of Vegan Veritas. Their t shirt designs are pretty nice.
Cailey Elliott had a table of her paintings. She is a professional oil painter. She actually is inspired by and writes poetry.
The 21 Days of Peace project by Lorenzo Diggins Jr was an exploration of what 21 people would come up with when contemplating the question: “how do you personally define peace of mind and what do you do to achieve and maintain it?” On the day of the festival people were asked to add their answer to the question. With every thing going on I think we need some peace of mind. Diggins took this concept and made it into a ZINE.
Welcome Blanket is a non-profit that tries to connect US residents with immigrants through hand made blankets. In a way this project is in response to the intended wall, trying to make the border be a symbol of inclusion rather then exclusion.
Native Sol had a table of their eco handmade and vintage jewelry and fashion.Native Sol is actually based in Long Beach.
Karlita Designs had a table of their jewelry made from semi precious gem stones.
Patchouli Nomad makes fabric toys filled with recycled material. She was a part of the Kaleidoscope Kollective, four women owned brands located in Echo Park.
Musician Noel Wells also had a table to sell her merchandise and promote her music. I did not realize at the time that she is also the actress from “Master of None” and Saturday Night Live, though I am not that into comedy. I have not seen either show. Truth I do not watch SNL. I have seen clips on YouTube and when there is something from the show that gets into the news.
I have realized in writing this that there are allot of people from Texas who are artists in my neighborhood. Kind of bothers me as a I was sexually assaulted by Jeremy Gilbreathe who is from Texas. I have also been stalked repeatedly by men from that State, especially very religious men. We need to stop the rape culture and stop the misogyny. Just because a woman wants a career does not mean she should be abused and treated like a threat to men. It is horrible how ignorant men can be and women. We wonder why women end up in abusive relationships and can’t leave. Because we do not let women have their own income and friends and lives. We live in a time where statistically men and woman actually both need to work to have the income to be stable. And men preventing women from some autonomy and self sufficiency are not creating happy and mentally healthy homes.
Finally Cash Machine had a table and SkinsLA had a tent with their art and clothing. There was also a tea vendor My Tea Therapy.
