Brewery Spring Art Walk Day Two April 30, 2023
I was working on finishing the atrium on the 29th but my phone battery died. I started on day two finding an exhibit room outside called Mount of Angels. It is a nonprofit whose mission is to bring people together through art. Mount of Angels is a non profit and clothing brand that raises money to give art supplies to underserved youth. They particularly like to focus on developing young people into working artists. This nonprofit was part of a room containing work by Richard Wilks who has made his name in art installments, particularly at Burning Man.

I then returned to the Atrium to finish the rooms I could not complete yesterday, starting with an artist who is a regular. The estate of Robert V Peluce, including the work of his living widow. The paintings of women on the green wall and the images of Asian women are her work. I love how her space is decorated.

Next was Ada Pullini Brown. During Covid she became acutely aware of how the isolationg limited her veiw of the sky and world around her. That lead to her creating a serices of images she calls “Through the Empyrean.” Some of the images contain a box or rectangle that represents the limited view of the sky and her surroundings. This inages is a section of a longer work.

Gallery I-5 os a collection of all the art work found in the Brewery. It is too extensive for me to list all of the arist. Rather I just want to show that this part of the exhibit exists It is one place one could start to get a flavor for the overall walk. Some of the artists I have included here are Jasmine Garcia, Napkin Killa, Marshall Vanderhoof, Lisa Simone, Sydney Krantz, Fornando Forero and Suzanne Pratt.

Next was “We Choose Art.” a colloborative group consisting of artists Baha Danesh, Brian Mccormack, and Krista Moy. Baha Danesh is a multidiciplinary artist, documentary photographer, and Iranian Jewish Feminist.

H.George Herbert painter. Herbert is an expert in Faux Finishing and decorative painting.

Next is Lamington and MCM Decor. They also included @retro.cetra. I got a sustainable plant for my apartment at this gallery and it still is alive and thriving on my windowsill.

Next was a group of displaced artists from the TOPANGA CANYON GALLERY. They lost their space to gentrification. They appaerently still need a space of their own. Check out their website if you can lend assistance. I met and had a long discussion with Susan Nissman who is not just a member of the gallery, but also on the board of the Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum She informed me that both organization have been in existence for a long time. Will Greer was one of the many actors and artists blacklisted in the 1950s for refusing to testify to Congress. TCG was founded in the 1980s. It is shameful they do not have a space anymore. I hope that this situation can be rectified. Susan exhibited a collection of 180 bowls on a raft called “Rescued” to symbolized the displaced due to war or natural disaster.
The artists that were represented at the TCG pop up at the Brewery included Iranian born Farideh Azad who created with glas and clay, multidisciplinary artist Delbar Azari, painter Lisa Baldwin, nature drawings and paintings of Kate Browning, Malibu based tech light artist Mark Estes, Debbi Green who likes to capture farm animals with acrylic, oil, pastel, collage, and ink, Celebrity and landscape photographer Don Holtz, collage painter Moises Mendoza, fiber artist Trudy Perry, fine Photpgrapher Patrick Ramsey, and finally sculptor, photographer and painter Idelle Okman Tyzbir.

Next was a display called “Art Kids” seeking donations and also offering a safe place for kids to learn to paint. It was also an advert for “Artsee NFT Gallery” which appears to be a way for people to acquire NFTs of art from the ART WALK and experience the walk virtually if so inclined.

Next is a regular resident of the Brewery, mixed media kinetic assemblage artist William Samdell who has been a motion picture designer, big foot researcher, and UFO enthusiast.

Next was mixed media sculptor Robert Wicklund. His name on Instagram is fake.brand,cute,name.

Szabo and Ullman Gallery. Jane Szabo has a background in creating minatures and props in set construction in the film and amusement industry and uses this experience in her photography. She did a series called “Reconstructing Self” that were self portraits of dresses. “Damaged” is a series walking in the woods. I believe that the Ullman part of the gallery are the cast objects in the first photo.

Todd Westover is an abstract floral painter.

Theory Labs is paintings, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
The first thing I sasw were plants in interesting planters. This gallery was a mix of different artists. For example Chinese Born photographer and painter Ai Huang. Graphic art of Jovino Bunny, “Gunpowder Flowers” and “Fields of War” OilGraphs by Kevin Rolly. The Shoe Box Circus. Art by Andrew Covell. There was a cartoonist artist called Baron Von Bachus. I can not find his social links. Also Antonio G-R and his fabrications.

I found the official ARTS KIDS LA space. It is near the brewery rock climbing facility. It was founded by an artist named Joshua Rogers. On display in the space was also the art work of demin artist Betty Stone. Also painter Brain Pasta.

Also present was the children book author Jason O. Silva. His first book the Tale of Edgar Trunk was published in 2011 and he has finally coming out with book 2 and 3. We talked about how he should see if they could be made into movies. I told him please not DISNEY.

Next was the LA ART CORE. This was a show called “A Different Persepctive” by Brewery Residents. It was a collection of paintings and a few sculptures. I am not sure I got all the names shown. But to my knowledge the show contained work by Julia Montgomery, Baha H. Danesh, Biana Dorso, and the cow is by Cynthia Minet.

Next is the acrylic and resin work of Cameron Cohen. Cameron grew up in Santa Monica and has been a jewlery maker, makeup artist and is now a PAINTER.

Dreamluke Silks by Javier Granados are beautiful. As a plant based person they are not my thing, but I know that this craft is fading. He also now makes Resin lamps under the name Luzfluxx Lighting. They also had cactus for sale. I was tempted. I think next time I go to the Brewery I need to go preparted to bring home some pots and plants. I am trying to build a garden on my window sill to make my apartment and space more liveable. I encourage anyone with a creative mind to suppound yourself with some green in the form of living plants.

Abstract Paintings of Chirs Ronk. Very basic and yet oddly intelligent in their geometry. Oddly the studio space that also is a home, was perfect for these pieces. I could see wanting one of these hanging in my space.

Nicole Fournier combines photos with an ancient painting technique called “encaustic”wax using melted beeswax and layers of pigmented wax. He prints the photos on canvas or wood.

Randii Hokett is an interesting fine artist who uses geology and chemsitry to make art work that resembles raw crytals and gemstones. I am still unsure how she does this.Something about her art work reminds me of making rock candy, except her work is not edible.

Astrothebaptist is the monker if LJ KIM, a mixes media artist and film maker.

Next was gallery Contact La a fine art photo lab darkroom in the Brewery. There website is still under construction. Part of their exhibit was the polaroid work of Brandy Eve.

Next is Rishard Ankrom whose work kind of disturbs me a bit. A collection of axes and figures with S&M leather masks, including Disney like characters. His place has a sign on the wall saying one may be photographed or recorded at the location. The hatchets are cast in resin and called “The Gra’ma Series.” Apparently it is a tribute to the artist grandmother who made paperweights out of resin and to crazed rural grandmothers with hatchets on front porches. Ankron inent is to make social and political commentary with his art. You can read more about him on his website and in one of the images I took below.

Cats Rule All is the creation of Ange Cox. Shane Izykowski. Some of the art work at this location were donated to LACPAW.com. I think the best kind of art is the kind that both supports an artist and gives back to others, in this case CATS. Shane Izykowski is a South Korean born painter who grew up in Pennsylvania. He is primarily self taught as a painter, photographer, set designer, curator, sculptor and podcaster. His paintings are very gothic in nature.

Next was the orints and paintings of Jill Skyes, and the MLA Gallery of Latin American Art. Jill Skyes subject matter is the natural world. Due to the fact that the MLA gallery features over a dozen artists I have chosen just to show an example from the collection and a list of featured artists. Perhaps next time I should do an indepth look at just this space. The next walk is in October 2023.

SkyE, described as Transdisciplinary Theater requies those who enter to remove ones shoes. The walls are covered in art while the floor has comfortable places to sit and cats. One wall is a beautiful garden paradise. It is more than a gallery. It is an experience. Those who attend are invited to make their own art or write a poem and leave it in the space. The space has a digital counter part under the name J&S Gallery. They are Jeremy Hahn and SKYe. These artists support the LGBTQ communities. Jeremy Hahn is an educator and dancer and SkyE is a voice over actor musician.

Kevin Flint, Diesel Punk and Dinosaurs makes interesting practical steam punk style art. His space is called Dystopian Studios and it is an interesting combination of art gallery and living space that reflects the artists talents. Apparently they have also added a second studio space at a different location. The studio serves as both a rental location and also is used by Kevin Flint to fabricate props and fine art. Kefin Flint has done a series called “SECULAR” that I find interesting.

The Secret Arden has the perfect name as it is a place where art meets your garden. The owner offered pots and some with plants, in particular cactus. There were also paintings on sale. The host of the space was Kara Fortier, who is a survivor and on her website Play Grounding shares her podcasts about her experiences. I actually want to get two of her pots. Hopefully next Walk.

She says her art work reflects her inner life. Her work also reflects her inernal reflections on social issues.

Bransted design is a beautiful mix of print making and light.

The next space housed three different groups. Rad Seams is the art product lines of collars and accessories for dogs based in the Brewery. It is the brain child of Oksana Putyatina. Covalence recycles airline seats and other products to create bags and solve the problem of a lack of pockets.

Just Loomis photographer works in Los Angeles and Berlin. He is a celebrity fashion portraint photographer. It appears the wigs used in the images may have come from Outfitters wig.

Teale Hatheway is a painter and creates beautiful home decor from pillows to wall paper. I like some of her designs. They are very impressionistic.

Photographer Marshall Vanderhunt is very familiar to me. I wish I had a really good camera. I woud love to take photos like these. I especially love the addition of horses, which I believe he told me he took in Arizona.

Caley O-Dwyer painter creates images that are modern, but also images of what he sees. One of these images is of a trip he made to Thailand. The three women below. O-Dwyer works in both the digital and the real of oil and acrylic, with many of his pieces crossing between both mediums. Check out his website for more.

Joe O’Neill had this work up.

Abel Alejandre

Paulina Wagner shared her vibrant paintings.

Photographer Fred Hoerr shared his work.

Maria Bjorkdahl had a wall of images she called “Abstract Ideas: The Post-Human and The Corporeal.” This was an interesting wall, because according to the description she used a combination of Artifically created art with human interaction. That would make these images her art.
